Sunday Job Descriptions

Reader

As a reader, you will read the First Lesson, Psalm, and Second Lesson from the lectern at the front of the Sanctuary. Please speak clearly and directly into the microphone to ensure the congregation can hear you. To help you prepare in advance, printed copies of all readings are available ahead of time in a manila folder located in the narthex.

Usher

Please arrive 30 minutes before the worship service to welcome worshipers with a warm, friendly greeting and hand out bulletins. Take this opportunity to introduce yourself to anyone you do not know. During the service, your duties include taking a headcount to record on the Attendance clipboard, collecting the offering and bringing it to the altar, and directing rows when it is time to proceed for communion.

Communion

Please arrive 15 minutes before the worship service to prepare the elements. Your pre-service duties include gathering the bread and wine from the basement kitchen refrigerator, pouring a small amount of wine into the pastor’s chalice, and setting out all supplies by the altar. During the service, you will step up to the altar to assist the pastor, who will guide you in your specific distribution duties.

Acolyte

Please plan to come 15 minutes before the service and pick out an alb (white robes). You will light candles, help with communion, and perhaps some other things. Look to the Pastor for directions during the service. Acolytes who will be doing it for the first time will receive the training necessary to be prepared.

Live Stream

Please arrive 15 minutes before the worship service starts to turn on all equipment and prepare the systems. Your responsibilities include hosting the YouTube livestream, adjusting the camera angles, and advancing the PowerPoint slides to sync with the service. For step-by-step guidance, follow the detailed instructions posted near the computers at the back of the sanctuary.

Fellowship

Plan to make or bring about 3 dozen homemade or store-bought cookies, bars, cake, etc. Please arrive 30 minutes before the worship service to prepare approximately 40 cups of coffee and set out your treats in the Fellowship Hall. You will also need to prepare either three pitchers of lemonade or water. Directions for operating the coffeepot are posted nearby, and all items should be fully set up before worship begins. After the service, please clean the entire serving area and wash all utilized pitchers, glasses, mugs, cups, and coffeepots; you may use the church dishwasher by following the instructions posted directly on the machine.
